چکیده
Trade names or manufacturers' names are used in this report for identification only. This usage does not constitute an official endorsement, either expressed or implied, by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The development of computatioiral icing simulation methods is making the transition from the research realm to commonplace use in design and certification efforts. As such, standards of code management, design, validation, and documentation must be adjusted to accommodate the increased expectations of the user community wich respect to accuracy, reliability, capability, and usability. This paper discusses these concepts with regard to current and future icing simuiaiiorr code development efsorts as implemented by the Icing Branch of the NASA Lewis Research Center iir collaboraiiori with the NASA Lewis Engineering Design and Analysis Division. With the applkation of the techrriqircs oirtiirted in this paper, the LE WICE ice accretion code has become a more stable and reliable software product.

Membrane technology is growing very fast and it is used in several main applications from desalination, water and wastewater treatment to medical, biotechnology and gas separation field. Different membrane processes are applied depending on the applications from more traditional pressure-driven membrane processes (Microfiltration, MF; Ultrafiltration, UF; Nanofiltration, NF) to more advanced on...
متن کاملOptimizing the Layout of Heaters for Distributed Active De-icing of Wind Turbine Blades
Ice accumulation on wind turbines operating in cold regions reduces power generation by degrading aerodynamic efficiency and causes mass imbalance and fatigue loads on the blades. Due to blade rotation and variation of the pitch angle, different locations on each blade experience large variations of Reynolds number, Nusselt number, heat loss, and non-uniform ice distribution. Hence, applying di...
متن کاملSoftware Development for Simulation of Reformer Furnace
In recent years, lots of research has been done on effective usage of natural gas; the first step in these processes is conversion of natural gas to Syngas. Natural gas reforming process by refomer furnace is commonly used for syngas and hydrogen production. In this paper, a windows based software, RIPI-RefSim, is introduced. By using proper heat, mass, kinetic and thermodynamic models as w...
متن کاملPrediction of Icing Effects on the Dynamic Response of Light Airplanes
The accumulation of ice on an airplane in flight is one of the leading contributing factors to general aviation accidents. To date, only relatively sophisticated methods based on detailed empirical data and flight data exist for its analysis. This paper develops amethodology and simulation tool for preliminary safety andperformance evaluations of airplane dynamic response and climb performance ...
